Punished for doing the right (travel) thing.

One of the perils of living in a rural area is that almost all work requires you to travel.

As a researcher I travel at least 10,000 miles a year & I do worry about my carbon footprint.  So whenever I can I take to the train.

The reality of the UK rail franchises is the generally the minimum service is offered for the maximum price.  The only advantage is that if you can or do travel at anti-social times then you can get a bargain. That is before you consider the merry go round of car-parking at the station.

The net effect is that you get punished for the right thing.
